About Us

Wellington Basement Waterproofing Specialists

We’ll level with you: nobody starts a basement waterproofing company because it’s glamorous. You start one because you’ve watched too many Wellington homeowners get burned by quick fixes that don’t last, by contractors who treat every job the same regardless of what’s actually causing the problem, and by a general industry tendency to underestimate how complicated water can be.

That’s the story behind this business. We got tired of seeing it done badly, so we decided to do it properly.

Over that time I’ve seen the full range, hairline cracks in Karori bungalows quietly weeping behind storage racks, full foundation failures in Lower Hutt homes that had been “patched” three times already, damp Thorndon townhouses where the owners had just accepted the smell as part of the character. None of it has to be that way.

This business exists to fix the problem properly, the first time. That’s the whole pitch.

Why Wellington Is Its Own Category

Most cities have wet basement problems. Wellington has wet basement problems plus:

  • Clay-heavy, moisture-retentive soils across much of the hill suburbs
  • Steep terrain that directs groundwater laterally into foundations with real force
  • Regular, persistent rainfall that doesn’t give the ground time to dry out between events
  • Seismic activity that creates movement in foundations over time, opening new pathways for water
  • A large stock of older villas and character homes built before modern moisture control standards existed

Understanding these conditions isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s the whole job. The solution that works in a flat Christchurch suburb on well-draining soils is not necessarily the right solution for a hillside home in Aro Valley or a character villa in Newtown. We know Wellington. We know the soils, the drainage patterns, the building eras, and the specific challenges that come with each suburb and each property type.

That’s why we don’t send in a crew that’s been doing general building work all week. This is what we do, and Wellington is where we do it.

What We Actually Believe About This Work

A few things we’ve learned over years of doing this:

The source matters more than the symptom.

Water appears in one place and comes from another. Treating the wet wall without tracing where the water is entering from is how you end up with the same problem six months later. We don’t skip the investigation.

Waterproofing paint is not waterproofing.

It’s moisture resistance at best, and it fails under any real hydrostatic pressure. We’ve remediated dozens of jobs where a homeowner paid good money for a coat of ‘waterproof’ paint and was back to square one within a season. If we think paint is sufficient, we’ll tell you. But we won’t recommend it when the job actually needs a proper system.

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome.

We price honestly and we explain every line. If you’re comparing quotes, we’re happy to walk you through ours and explain exactly what each element is doing and why it’s there. We’d rather lose a job to a competitor than win it by cutting corners we know will matter later.

Disruption should be minimised.

Having a crew in your home is stressful. We show up when we say we will, we work cleanly, we communicate throughout the job, and we don’t leave you wondering what’s happening. We treat your property the way we’d want ours treated.
